Power Quality
Online UPS vs Servo Stabilizer: What Is the Difference?
An online UPS converts incoming AC to DC and back to AC to supply supported loads, with stored energy for outages. A servo stabilizer regulates supply voltage through a servo-controlled transformer system.
Continuity and regulation
A stabilizer can correct voltage within its specified range but cannot continue supplying power when the source fails. An online UPS can provide backup for its designed runtime, subject to battery condition, load and operating mode.
Choose by load requirements
Consider a UPS for systems that need continuity, such as servers, controls and critical electronics. Consider a stabilizer for voltage-sensitive loads that can tolerate a supply outage, after checking regulation speed and starting duty.
Compare total requirements
For a UPS, check kW as well as kVA, battery runtime, bypass and overload capacity. For a stabilizer, check input range, kVA at minimum input, cooling and response. Do not assume either device corrects every power-quality issue.
