Power Quality
Servo Stabilizer vs Isolation Transformer
Voltage regulation and electrical isolation address different supply requirements. Identify the power-quality problem before choosing a stabilizer, transformer or combined arrangement.
Updated
What a servo stabilizer changes
A servo stabilizer adjusts output voltage as input voltage changes within its operating limits. Capacity, correction range, response, bypass and phase configuration depend on the selected model. It requires a live input supply and does not provide battery backup.
What an isolation transformer changes
Separate primary and secondary windings provide galvanic separation and a specified voltage ratio. Noise performance depends on the transformer construction, electrostatic screening, earthing and installation. Do not assume a noise attenuation value or active voltage regulation from the word isolation.
A practical selection example
A machine experiencing sustained low mains voltage needs a voltage investigation and possibly regulation. Equipment requiring supply separation needs an isolation and earthing design. Where both needs exist, review a combined solution with the equipment supplier rather than treating either device as a universal cure.
Information required for selection
Provide measured voltage variation, load kVA, starting currents, primary and secondary voltages, frequency, phases and equipment earthing requirements. Obtain model-specific data and confirm protection and installation arrangements.
Frequently asked questions
Does an isolation transformer stabilize the supply voltage?
A conventional isolation transformer provides electrical separation and a specified voltage ratio. It does not actively correct changing input voltage like a servo stabilizer.
Are the examples a GEESYS product specification?
No. Worked examples explain selection principles. Use the selected product datasheet and approved project design for actual ratings and installation requirements.
