Solar
Solar String Combiner Box: Working, Features and Applications
A string combiner collects compatible solar strings and delivers their combined DC current to an inverter or downstream DC circuit.
How current flows
Each string enters a separate input. Protection is selected according to possible reverse current and module limits. A common output carries the sum of connected string currents; the output cable and switching must suit this duty.
Useful features
Specify accessible fuse holders where required, DC-rated isolation, suitable surge protection, clear polarity labels, secure terminals and weather protection. Optional current sensing helps locate underperforming strings.
Typical applications
Use a combiner when the inverter architecture calls for parallel strings outside the inverter. Keep independent MPPT circuits separate and check voltage, current and short-circuit input limits before combining.
