What Is a Solar AC Combiner Box?
A solar AC combiner box collects AC outputs from multiple inverters into a protected outgoing feeder or bus arrangement.
How it operates
Individual inverter outputs connect through their assigned protective and isolation devices. The common bus and outgoing feeder carry the designed simultaneous output, with ratings based on the inverter system and installation conditions.
Components and protection
Assemblies can include AC breakers, busbars, metering, surge protection, neutral and protective-earth terminals. Coordinate feeder protection with the upstream board and verify prospective fault current.
Selection inputs
Provide inverter count, output voltage and current, phase arrangement, cable sizes, connection diagram and environmental conditions. Consider voltage rise, phase balance and utility interconnection requirements.
