What Is a String Monitoring Box in a Solar Power Plant?
A string monitoring box measures PV string performance and sends readings to a supervisory system. It may be integrated into a combiner assembly.
Measurements and communication
Typical designs measure string current; some also measure voltage, temperature or device status. Data may be sent through a supported communication interface to a plant monitoring system.
How it helps operations
Comparing similar strings under similar irradiation can reveal abnormal current caused by shading, soiling, open circuits or equipment faults. An alarm is a prompt for investigation, not a complete diagnosis.
Selection checklist
Specify string count, measurement range and accuracy, DC voltage, communications, data integration and enclosure conditions. Confirm whether protection and isolation are included: monitoring alone does not provide them.
