Electrical Panels
What Is a Motor Control Panel and Where Is It Used?
A motor control panel houses the power switching, protection and control functions used to operate one or more motors.
Typical components
Depending on duty, it contains breakers or fuses, contactors, overload protection, control supplies, relays and operator devices. Soft starters, drives or programmable controllers may be included.
Working principle
A start command energizes the appropriate control sequence when permissive conditions are satisfied. Stop commands, overload signals and process interlocks act through the designed circuit. Safety functions require suitable architecture and validation.
Applications and selection
Applications include pumps, fans, conveyors and process machines. Specify motor ratings, starting method, duty, interlocks, local or remote operation, fault level and enclosure environment. Verify the complete control schematic before installation.
